Gary grew up in the small town of Holywood, Northern Ireland. After completing his MA in Architecture at the University of Edinburgh, he traveled the world making chalk drawings at festivals in Europe, Australia, and the US. On arrival to the US he met and studied with the apprentices of Diego Rivera and since then he has undertaken mural commissions for the Ulster Museum, Belfast, Public Art in London, and murals for numerous feature film productions in LA. He has also done mural workshop projects for non-profit organizations in LA, and with street-kids in Uganda. A book recording his work and travels, ‘A Carpet of Dream’, was published in 1998, and some drawings are included in a recent book called 3-D Street Art by Tectum. (www.tectum.be) The Road to Zanzibar, a series of anthropological paintings based on travels in East Africa, were exhibited at the LA Internatioinal. Another body of work - Distilled Landscapes - in japanese sumi ink, were shown in a solo show at Bergamot Station in Santa Monica. - Particulate Fields, his current work, are conceptual paintings conceived as reflections of the nature of nature. Gary now works from his studio in Venice California, and his paintings are collected by notable celebrities including, Sean Lennon, Kirk Douglas, and Catherine Zeta Jones.
